The par 5 8th hole at Brick Landing Plantation is both a fun hole to play and a challenge to the golfers. Today we are going to take a look at the hole and how to play it. Since almost everyone that plays The Brick is an amateur we will look at playing front he white tees.
At 539 yards from the white tees we are obviously looking at how to get to the green in 3 shots. Very few golfers can reach this green in 2 (kudos to those who can). So as important as getting good distance off the tee may be on a par 5, here the positioning off the tee is just as important. The slight dogleg right lends to the need to be along the left side of the fairway off the tee.
The second half of the fairway is narrow and tree lined placing a premium on accuracy as we look to layup to a good spot for the third shot. The fairway ends about 60 yards from the front of the green so players need to keep that in mind when choosing how far down the fairway to go with the second shot.
Most golfers will layup to somewhere between 150 to 75 yards out. So the approach shot will be played with a mid to short iron or wedge into the green complex. The green is 42 yards deep. Golfers that want to be aggressive and hit for the flag need to pay close attention to the pin placement when selecting a club. For the rest of us a 42 yard deep green means aim for the middle! Hitting the middle of a large green provides a great opportunity to walk off to the golf cart with a par. Hitting the green is important because a missed green probably means the ball is in 1 of the 3 large sand traps that surround the putting surface.
Once on the green players are looking at a large but relatively flat surface which should make them all excited about the chance of rolling in a putt. Golfers need to be mindful not to be too aggressive or they will be walking to the cart with a 3 putt.
